The decision.

The Senate just sat and discussed the issue at hand, and has come to a conclusion.

Don't use BitTorrent if you are in Singapore.

Unfortunately, there is NOTHING we can do. I proposed private trackers and changing the file names, but after (a very short) discussion (with the distros), the team came to the conclusion that by using BitTorrent, you are revealing your IP address to anyone who torrents that file.

Let's face it. BitTorrent was made for legal downloading of huge files, such as ocremix.org's batch songs and o2jam's full song pack. :P

We do, however, offer a host of other downloading options, such as IRC and DDLs. Yes, they could be slower than your usual BitTorrent methods (strangely), but would you rather wait an hour and watch your anime, or pay $3000? I would presume most of you are in your late teens or early twenties. Can you afford to pay $3000?

Currently, because Seto no Hanayome is licensed by ODEX (ZnT S2 and HA are not, yet), we HIGHLY encourage all fans of Seto no Hanayome to download their source via IRC FROM the respective group's channels (Note that a compromised DCC bot can be your downfall too). If you need help in downloading via the bots, most operators are more than willing to help. Just ask nicely. (Sadly, the problem with a few Singaporeans is that internet manners seem to need to be drilled in. Just ask our resident \404 on what he thinks about people with .sg prefixes.)

So, you may wonder, why am I doing this?

I have lived in Singapore for a bit of my life due to some family reasons. Loved the place. It just saddens me to see fans of Singapore are being bullied by a company which produces crap. If their releases were good, I wouldn't have mind.

But let's say that my VCD of Shakugan no Shana was one of the worst investments I've made in my life (The other being a Maximum Tune 2 unshaded attempt only to lose at Stage 78. LoL).

I fully support getting the DVDs when they are released in your area, which is why Ayako has ceased distribution of Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora and Shuffle! Memories ASAP, as well as seeds for SR2 are pretty much non-existent now. However, when I pay money for something, I expect to obtain an equal amount of happiness from it.

ODEX, obviously fails at doing so.

In any case, BitTorrent is out. IRC and DDLs all the way. All YM trackers shall, from now on, ban all IPs which originates from Singapore.

We do not want to be helping bullies in any way.

I take it that using tor (Onion Router) for one's internet activity (which -is- going to divide your bandwidth up among your transactions and others', anonymized a bit) would not have the desired effect?

Also...copyright is not a virus, though perhaps I am missing the obvious copyphlegm and copycoughing. It is true the whole: do good/share results/get paid/only worry a little about copies and libraries is utterly unmanaged in the manner that subprime lending and prime banking of the same assets is.

Is IRC safe?

Guys Guys This is urgent I just checked up on some legal proceedings. Apparently, Odex can't legally prosecute us if we are download through torrent. The only way the they can sue us if we download through Direct Download or IRC as it is deem as downloading. when we are using torrent we are technically and legally file sharing and according to international law (excluding europe's law) and Singapore law file sharing is legal in which both we cannot be claimed as pirates as we are sharing the files. So please don't ban the Singapore IP just yet. In addition to that, I've done my research and I've seen a copy of the letter, what came to my mind is that they can only files which are direct downloaded. I.E if we use torrents, then a .torrent file will appear if we are direct downloading, a .avi file appears and we are in deep shit. Also, if they show that we "downloaded" .avi file when we clearly did not, we can sue them for fraud and hacking as technically, the ISP only have given them excess to "download" files and not "P2P" files or even files in our computer.

Oh PS think about it, I am pretty sure that the americans would have gotten that first since all of them has the patriot act on and freedom to information law. Too bad we have p2p to protect us.

Its not just about getting good quality anime from odex. The censorship board is also very rigorous..

Hong Loon:

Tell that to the people who got slapped with the $3k "settlement" fine.

Thing is, when you download from torrent, you WILL still get the avi file. Hence, you are still illegally distributing the file. Hence, they get your IPs because you are using torrent.

Steve:

We've talked about that, we are using that, and we have decided that it's still useless.

Copyright isn't a virus. However, getting $3k out of teenagers and people who would definitely need it, is another matter.

Just to be sure this wont effect the us will it? we'll still be able to get new episodes right? just wondering cause I dont know any other fan subber that does some of the shows you do.

OK, heres what to do,

first, use the irc and ddl's to get the episodes. For those who have fast pipes, help by uploading the files to free filesharing sites, megaupload is nice. This will not only save the4 bandwidth costs of your-mom distros, but also help other people who cant use irc to download the files.

secondly, donating to the ddl sites is not a requirement, but it still motivates the hosts to continue providing free downloads, even if the donation amount is small.

finally, for Singaporeans who still wanna torrent, move to Malaysia LOL!

Well not really "Distributing" but sharing. It is period Sharing if we obtain the file through p2p. So even if they manage to see that we have a copy of the .avi files, they can't sue us because they have not prove they we "downloaded" it. only thing they can show is that someone shared it with us. Also, they can't and not suppose to track our computer contents or else it will be called hacking or fraud (as changing contents of evidence) there was a case that happened in America. the defendant were found not guilty.

and no even if they find us through torrent, they cant charge us as we are not "downloading" but file sharing. In terms of law, they are not allowed to remotely search our computer via internet. they can track the content we are downloading but not track the content in the computer. If they are doing that, then they are down right hacking and can be sued for that. Sorry my friend, brother doing law. Told me the flaw of doing that and checked with a couple of friends. they all agreed on the explanation. Anywho, I no longer will be in Singapore starting next week

Thanks for your efforts. Its not much, because most of us already know about the alternatives, but there really is no other alternative for S'poreans anymore (at least until the hoohah dies down) anyway.

#Your-Mom's concern for fellow fans in a tiny island in South-East Asia is very much appreciated.

Lol im still confused. Although Hong Loon points out wat he is trying to say. Apprently tats how odex catch people. They request court order to have isp reveal your ip. They obtain ip through tracker which they deem fit enough to arrest u. Thats what i tink and ya this method is flaw but they continue to arrest people using this method. As for ddl and irc i duno whether odex got check or not.

Though this may sound like a stupid question, what IRC base does Your Mom use? Those of us that are new to this site don't really know where to go, after all. Not that I've seen any of this particular series yet, but still... It would be nice to know.
